Dublin Gets Another Purple Flag
We are delighted to see that Dublin One is turning purple! The area has been awarded Purple Flag accreditation for excellence in night time economy. Both our Henry Street and Jervis Shopping Centre stores are in the area. The area awarded the Purple Flag is between O’Connell St and Capel St and Parnell St to the River Liffey.
What is Purple Flag?
Purple Flag is the ‘gold standard’ for town and city centres in the early evening and at night from 5pm to 5am who show a number of attributes that promote a good economy. This adds to another Purple Flag accreditation for the city, which can be found just south of the River Liffey.
The area has added to its evening time offerings, which are taken into consideration by the judging panel. A group of representatives from DublinTown, Dublin City Council, An Garda Síochana, Fáilte Ireland as well as local businesses including ourselves was established to support the application for the Purple Flag. Once the application was put forward, a team of independent assessors visited the area in December 2016 and concluded that the area was in a position to be awarded Purple Flag status. The area was judged under a number of criteria including the quality of the offering, ease of movement through the area and the safety and security of the location.
Dublin One will officially receive the Purple Flag accreditation along with some other major cities and towns across Ireland and the UK such as Limerick, Maynooth, Wexford, Leeds, Reading. The award will be presented at a special awards ceremony which will take place in February 2017 in Carrick-on-Shannon.
Make sure you walk through the area during the evening to see why it was awarded the Purple Flag. The area is full of life during the evening time with the many shops that open late and the pubs and music venues in the area.
